Food Supplement Compliance Journey (GB or EU)
About the EU/GB Compliance Journey Package
All food supplements launched on the market in Great Britain, or the European Union, must comply with the requirements of a set of food regulations before they are made available to consumers.
The Compliance Journey Package is a ‘ready to market’ package inclusive of the steps needed in order to achieve initial GB and/or EU regulatory compliance.

What is involved in a Compliance Journey?
A number of steps are involved in the completion of a compliance journey. Our team will guide you through the process and provide the support needed at each stage.
Overview of regulatory landscape and considerations
Bloom will provide support to aid your understanding of the food regulatory landscape in your destination market. Whilst food supplements have legislation specific to them, they also must comply with other food law that applies to all food products, which can make the landscape complex. Bloom provides comprehensive support so that all your compliance obligations for your food supplement are met. Where possible, it is especially important to consider regulatory aspects during the development process as decisions made early on can impact the ability to make product claims later on in the compliance process.
Positioning and Classification
Bloom will help you identify key claims and functions and assess any red flags (e.g. medicinal claims) that could impact your product’s classification to help position your food supplement products effectively. We also ensure at this stage that your food supplement contains the right key ingredients in order to make your desired claims.
Confirmation of Food Business Operator (FBO)
To fulfil legal obligations, a Food Business Operator is required. Bloom can help guide you through the available options and help you to choose the most suitable option for your brand.
Formulation Check
Our team will review your formulations to identify any potential current or upcoming compliance issues and provide recommendations for adjustment.
Label Support
Bloom will review your labels, create ingredient lists and nutrition information tables, review mandatory labelling requirements (including any necessary warnings), prepare your recycling information, and advise on translations requirements (if applicable).
Claims Support
We review your product claims against the Nutrition and Health Claims Regulation in the EU/GB. For certain types of claims, additional types of testing will be required for which we will be happy to provide recommendations on how best to ensure compliance and maintain brand identity in relation to your proposed product claims.
Notifications
Before launch, products are required to be notified in certain member states within the EU. We advise on whether this is required.
Statement of Compliance
This statement affirms that your products meet regulatory requirements in your chosen market(s).
Ongoing Compliance Support (6 months)
Our team will set up ongoing compliance support to maintain regulatory compliance after product launch as the landscape is forever changing. The package includes support for 6 months during which we will monitor the ongoing compliance of your formula and support with nutrivigilance. We can also continue this as a separate service once your initial 6 months have passed.
Timelines
Providing all information is available at the start of the project, we can complete the process in around 6-8 weeks. However, we usually find that most brands allow 6 months for the label printing and manufacturing processes to run alongside the compliance journey.
